Well, it's nearly two am and I woke, wide awake about an hour ago. Sometimes when that happens it's with a new story or novel idea. This morning--nada. Oh well, I just semi-retired this month which means, being a nurse, I can only work about four shifts a month. Otherwise Uncle Sam will take some of my money back he was gracious enough to start sending. I usually don't get political, but when did we let our government get so stupid. They give...what did I say...give? I've been paying it since I was sixteen and they give those of us that chose to take retirement at sixty-two a reduced amount...so why then restrict the amount of money we can earn. That pays taxes...in some cases creates jobs...makes little sense. If they don't want us to retire at sixty-two, then just stop allowing it.

On the writing front. Ghost Reaper the novel is out there for your reading pleasure and my new novel SCIZO has been edited until my fingers bled. On to another editor and should be out by the end of May.

One more thing...this worked...I feel sleepy again. Probably will put you away as well. LMAO

World of Self

This is my diatribe of the day. My hope is it gives you something new to think about.

A solipsistic universe. That from the good Dr. McCoy in one of the hundreds of fan fiction written by the many authors who were also 'Star Trek' fans. (Yes, I'm a trekie myself, I have around seventy of these novels collected in my youth) The concept stuck with me over the years, culminating the other night when I awoke with not only an expanse of the idea, but the idea for a novel, which before I owned only a title.

As the good doctor explained. Try as you may, you cannot see or imagine the world from any other point of view except your own. You can attempt to imagine what it might be, but you cannot experience others points of view because you are the center of your universe. Try it. You will find it impossible to see a world without you in it, and in fact, you at the middle of it. Your own omnipresent psyche will win out and if you examine what you thought, or felt, you will find it came from your mind.

So if the world's population is around 7 billion, as it is estimated to be. There are 7 billion separate universes out there. Seven billion worlds that none can have access to, unless of course you are God, and I hope he has a really big bottle of aspirin. Imagine from your perspective, which is the only one you can imagine from, the dreams, aspirations, pain, confusion and ideas of all of these people are different from yours, which they most certainly would be, and do the math. Wow! You can't wrap your head around it, can you?

Now, to quote another character from the famed series, Mr. Spock, you might say that is “a difference that makes no difference.” True, but the loneliness of it is astounding. I once wrote, or actually, I gave credit to my evil twin Drew, that when you think outside the box you find yet another box. I've just described 7 billion of them. Boxes we are trapped in and can only glimpse outside beyond through our imaginations.

That's were the writer comes in. We make a feeble attempt to bridge these boxes. Yes, it comes from our imaginations, but we are expressing feelings and thoughts of other people. Still, these characters come from us. An inescapable fact, yet we persevere anyway.

Ghost Reaper 8 will be live on Amazon sometime 2/16/14. For those who aren't aware, I started this serial novel in hopes it would jump start my writing engine. It worked. Two episodes are left for this novel and then I will combine the ten episodes, all written within six months, along with the last 100 pages of another novel which is in the editing stage. Oh, and one short story. I work, so for me this accomplishment went beyond surprising me.


So onto the next one. If you liked Ghost Reaper, you will be happy to know that it is a prequel to a set of three novels under the collective name of  "Lucifer's Children" Each will be subtitled and I will reveal that two of the characters from the GR series will once again be battling the forces of evil.

Also, for those of you that read the bible, be ready to have your knickers knocked. Weaved throughout are possible alternatives to the traditional interpretations. Scriptures from the King James with translations from a dependable Hebrew/Greek concordance dictionary. In other words... the words...and it might surprise you what they say.

It will be fiction horror and any similarity to actual persons living or dead...or alive again...or walking dead...or about to be dead, is entirely accidental...I mean coincidental.

This story has evolved from a little ghost short story, to a path back to the flesh, to battle against the forces of hell, and leading right into a trilogy of novels I started a year ago. Guess it oozed from my subconscious. Maybe my muse needs therapy.

I'm about half way through a Horrible Horror story that I wrote some 20 years ago. It's longer, awfuler, and a fairly grotesque piece. Hope to have it out some time next month.

Question. How many of you write by the seat of your pants. I think they call us 'pansters' and for better or worse this is how I write. I never outline. I just start with an idea, plug in characters and let it evolve. Sometimes it causes me problems. Sometimes the characters take over, but some of the wonderful twists and curves come from this.

I think.

Stephen King wrote that if you know what is going to happen so will the reader. Maybe an outline telegraphs the outcome.

I'm interested in other viewpoints. What do you think? Sometimes I feel an outline would give me more focus. Never to late to learn.

Encouraging your writing.

I'm not talking about writers block, maybe writers "don't want to". I was trying to find a way to encourage myself to write. I suppose some would say if you don't want to write you're probably not a writer. I will consider that for another time. What I did was publish a serial novel. Twelve episodes to be published every 21 days or so. It worked. Not only am I now working on the seventh episode, but I finished a novel that I had been working on forever.

Now. I'm not suggesting you do this, unless you want the pressure of a deadline looming over your head. But try placing a word count on each chapter. Say, 5000 words. Treat it like it is due, as if some catastrophic extinction level event will occur should you fail. Leave yourself hanging after each chapter. This has cured the "I don't want to s" for me. Might be your ticket also. Good luck and keep on writing.

My dog Petey is a blind Chihuahua, who has trouble walking on our wood simulated vinyl floor. The ceramic causes him no problems. His bed is in our living room which has this tile. Either he hates it or thinks (because it is dark) it is some kind of chasm. We have a towel by his bed and somehow a gap of maybe eight inches separated the two. He groaned and whined and finally chose to jump to the bed. Pretty good hind legs for a 12 year old dog. He cleared the bed and landed past it on the floor. I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
